Slowstart Guide

  1. Remember, sr RAW is a RAW Cinema Camera with no processing intervention steps
    1. Choose your settings: camera lens, resolution and fps
    2. AF is on default while in Preview Mode; switch to MF whenever you want
      1. MF only while shooting
    3. To limit accidental highlight clipping, we created an advanced shutter lock exposure mode.
      1. Change Exposure in post via Camera RAW tab in DaVinci Resolve.
    4. sr RAW is a filmmaking experience
      1. Nothing is "baked" into sr RAW
        1. Not white balance, color space, gamma, color temp, tint, exposure, sharpness or highlights
        2. Focus on your subject while shooting, focus on your look while grading
      2. No traditional "app" stabilization available
        1. rock steady, tall as a tripod, nimble as a gimbal
    5. sr RAW cannot be published or shared to a social/video platform immediately after you stop recording
      1. Cinema is pre, prod and post. So does sr RAW.
  2. sr RAW files are stored differently than any other video app
    1. Each time you hit record, three things are recorded in real-time:
      1. Lightweight h265 field proxies
        1. Play these back to check framing, performance, etc.
        2. Think of these as your "one light dailies"
        3. Can easily be shared with others
        4. Not recommend for editing (proxy and master need to be swappable file types; h265 and cDNG are not)
      2. cDNGs
        1. cDNG is perhaps the purest RAW Cinema codec with the least things baked in
        2. A camera codec is only as good if post tools support it
        3. DaVinci Resolve is the most robust cDNG post-production tool and is available as a free or Studio version.
      3. Uncompressed WAV
        1. If you get great cinema recording, why not also get the highest quality audio recording

    1. sr RAW files are easily accessed. Simply tap the Files icon, left of REC, which directly links to sr RAW folder in Files App

  1. Transfer Files

  1. Use USB-C for fastest Transfer
    1. Simply connect iPhone
    2. iPhone mounts in Finder
    3. Navigate to "Files" tab
    4. Copy the sr RAW folders to local or external storage
  2. AirDrop also works (but its much slower and uses more battery!)
      1. Simple tap and hold on a sr RAW folder
      2. Choose "Share" from popup menu
      3. Select AirDrop form options
      4. Select your Mac/iPad Pro from "My Devices"

  1. Navigate to DaVinci Resolve's "Media" folder to import transferred sr RAW folder
    1. From the "Media Storage" tab, navigate to the sr RAW folder
    2. Select and drag the cDNG and WAV file to Media Pool bin
      1. Just like with other cDNG cinema camera, DaVinci creates a single cDNG file created using the individual frames
    3. If required, drag cDNG and WAV in Cut or Edit timeline to sync clip start

  1. Edit + Color Grade + Release
    1. DaVinci Resolve is the most powerful post-production tool and even more so for cDNGs!
    2. There are a ton of resources to learn how to work with cDNGs in DaVinci Resolve
    3. For Grading basics, navigate to Color Tab -> Camera Raw tab
      1. Work with LUTs, noise, grain, etc with Nodes
